This year was our turn.

Days before leaving, we divided all the people that were going into 5 groups. Each group had to do a housework task which included:  preparing breakfast, lunch, dinner, cleaning the toilets and cleaning the house. Each work had a supervisor that made sure that everyone was doing something.

First of all I have to say that to arrive at Inagua you have to walk 10 Kms ! but don’t worry, if you’re tired you can go by car.

The same day we reached the house, we did another walk to see the sundown.

The next day we had to wake up at eight ó clock in the morning to have breakfast. Then we prepared our things to walk. This time we surrounded a montain. The worst thing was that I suffer vertigo, and we were walking at an altitude of 300 meters, so I walked looking at the ground. The monitor, Teddy, showed us native plants and flowers. He also told us that even after the fire that took place there two years ago, plants and flowers believed to be extinct, grew once more.

The third day, we didn’t walk a lot. Teddy took us to a dry waterfall.

In the afternoon, the monitor, showed us photos of Inagua after the fire and compared them with now. It is awesome how nature is able to recover from a fire.

This day it was my birthday, my friends prepared a surprise party with a delicious cake. At night, some of us went to the bedroom and we had a party, we put on music and we danced.

The last day we had to clean all the house and walked another 10 km more to reach the bus.

The experience was excellent, we learnt how to protect nature and how to live together.

On Tuesday we were all prepared as if we were going on a normal school trek but we did not know what was waiting for us and what we were going to learn and enjoy. Inagua is not a regular camping expedition; It is something really different. To spend 4 days and three nights in an extraordinary place, a natural reserve, with an incredible sky where you can clearly see the stars (not like in a city!), is an incredible experience.

In addition to the long walks, there are so many anecdotes that if I had to count them all, it would fill the whole page.

To summarise, it is a remarkable experience that helps us learn new things and get to know places on our Island that we never knew existed.

probablemente,el vecino mas famoso del mundo. Si, si están en lo cierto. Soy las casas del parlamento inglesas. Mi fiesta mas famosa es la apertura del parlamento inglesa( el 6 de Diciembre).En este especial dia, la reina o rey de Inglaterra, desfila en su dorada carroza , tirada de las más puras razas de caballos, saludando a su querido pueblo. Al llegar a las casas del parlamento, recorre la royal gallery. Va a la cámara de los lores y recita un gran y solemne discurso. Por otro lado, el big ben y yo siempre

fuimos grandes compis, tanto de la escuela, como de un mismo lugar . (El siempre fue el mas puntual, y yo a el que mas le interesaba la política). Tengo tres lugares muy importantes. El Wetsmister hall, con el mismo nombre que mi amiga, probablemente la más religiosa de la escuela, La Abadía de Wetsmister. El vestíbulo central y la torre Victoria, con el mismo nombre que la gran reina Victoria. Esta torre alberga desde 1497 1,5 millones de leyes. Bueno, no me queda nada más que decir. Este texto es un pequeño pedazo de mi historia, este es un pequeño pedazo de la historia inglesa.

In 1625, Charles I became King of England as the next in a long line of rulers who took for granted the absolute power of the king to make and administer laws, to rule without Parliament.

Parliament wanted to have the king’s power, but they couldn’t, so they just obeyed him. There were two groups determined to make government submissive to the elected Parliament.  Added to the political mixture was a religious clash between Catholic and Protestants.

During the next years, the struggle for supremacy continued and in, 1642, war was declared between two faction. The Civil War between the king’s faction and the Parliament faction.

The English king, Charles I, has started to make the English people get angry. He is raising taxes, he is not respecting the parliament and he is married with a catholic.

By the other side, the puritans´ leader, Oliver Cromwell agrees with most of the people that the king should hand over power to the parliament.

A fight betwen England and Scotland has already started, and it is now taking place, while most of the English are not treated fairly.

The Scots, the puritans and part of the English doen´t like the behaviour of this king, and if this continious like this the king won´t have any longer power to rule England.

As most of the people think, if this situation continues and the king does´t change his behaviour, a civil war is about to start, something that most of the English describe as “ A thing most horrible”.

Tienes que estudiar a tu enemigo y encontrar su punto débil.

Me han otorgado el privilegio de hacerme pasar por una profesora del Colegio Arenas Atlántico. Hay que ser cautelosa en mi misión ya que mi objetivo es descubrir cuál será el tema de las olimpiadas puesto que se ha convertido en un gran secreto. Mis superiores me han indicado de que tengo el plazo de tres días para averiguarlo.

El primer día los alumnos tenían Física a primera hora, yo me desplacé al mirador para divisar paso a paso lo que realizaban. Iba apuntando en un blog todo lo que veía por ejemplos: la música coreografías…

El segundo día me llamó mi jefe para ver como me iba, yo no le quería mentir así que le que todavía no tenía nada. Por la mañana me avisaron de que había una reunión de profesores.

Uno: nos presentamos

Dos: estuvimos charlando sobre los chicos

Tres: el tema de las olimpiadas

Me detuve mucho en el tercer punto ya que era por lo encontraba allí.

La directora sospechaba de mi ya que me temblaban las manos y hacía un sinfín de preguntas sobre el tema por fin a alguien se le fue la lengua y soltó la palabra mágica que me tenía intrigada desde hace horas.

Cogí el móvil y con seguridad e impetud localicé al otro bando y les di lo que esperaban “EL ARTE” .

En conclusión, mi recompensa fue un hermoso crucero por las islas.

A THING MOST HORRIBLE!!

In 1642, Edmund Verney sent this letter to his brother Ralph. . The letter was written just as Britain was about to enter nine years of civil war.

Brother, what I feared is true-you are against the king. It breaks my heart to think that my father and I, who love you so dearly, should be your enemy because of our duty to the king. I am so troubled that I can write no more. All wars bring pain and suffering but civil wars seem to hurt more than others. They are fought by people from the same country. As Edmud discovered, they split families: fathers fight sons; brothers kill brothers; friends kill friends. One general simply described civil war as ‘a thing most horrible’.
